Another Recent Patient Testimonial, and a word on Kinesio tape

This is another recent testimonial from one of Brett's patients.

"To whom it may concern

I am writing to advise you about the treatment I received from Brett Gibbens. I was originally diagnosed by our rugby club physio who advised me I had a muscle injury. She proceeded to massage the leg during the week and made the injury and bruising worse. Having spoken to Brett, he correctly diagnosed the injury, provided extensive rehabilitation treatment (cold and warm treatment, Kinesio tape and massage a couple of weeks down the line). He also advised me when would be the correct time to start training again so as not to make the injury worse.

I feel that without his help, I would have been out a lot longer. He explained what he was doing clearly, was honest about rehabilitation time and used his own free time to provide treatment. I would recommend Brett's abilities to anyone.

If you would like to discuss the treatment I received personally, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Faithfully''

At The Chiropractic Clinic, we use many different Physical therapy techniques to get patients better as quickly as possible. Kinesio tape, as mentioned above is a relatively new addition to the rehab world. We have been using it in appropriate cases for a couple of years now, and we have Brett and Donna Strachan who are registered practitioners in the technique.

Like a lot of new techniques and products, we were skeptical at first. The most obviously testable claim was that it aided lymphatic fluid drainage, and therein was able to reduce inflammation and bruising. A very useful property if true. As luck would have it, one of our Rugby playing Chiropractors had managed to sustain an impressive bruise to the thigh, and so became an instant guinea pig.

We taped a chequered pattern upon the bruise with the Kinesio tape, then the following day removed it to see if it had achieved any effect upon the injury. We were impressed to see quite how effectively it had reduced the bruising where the tape had been applied. The bruise had a very clear criss cross pattern from where the tape had been removed, demonstrating a clear ability of the tape to reduce inflammation.

An additional benefit of Kinesio tape is its functionality. Due to the flexibility of the tape, individual muscle outlines can be taped allowing the patient to perform normal functional movements with the additional support of the tape, a particularly useful property in the treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. It helps reduce the stress on the muscle allowing the healing time to be cut down.
It is also fun to watch 6' 6'' rugby players walking out of the clinic covered in pink tape. (other colours are available....if you insist!)
